Silicone Breast Implants

After you choose to have breast augmentation surgery, the first step will be to consult with your surgeon to make important decisions about the type of implant you will receive. At Physicians Marketing Group, as soon as we receive your completed Confidential Inquiry Form, we will contact you to set up a consultation with a Board Certified Surgeon in your area. This consultation is free of charge, even if you do not elect to go forward with surgery, and is your opportunity to discuss the details of your procedure with your surgeon.

There are two types of breast implant that are used today, saline and silicone. Both types of implant consist of a silicone shell filled with either silicone gel (the silicone implant) or a salt water solution called saline (the saline implant). In current breast augmentation procedures, saline implants are used almost all of the time. This is because they are considered to be safer by the Food & Drug Administration and are available on an unrestricted basis.

Silicone implants are still being studied by the Food & Drug Administration and are therefore not readily available. The FDA is trying to determine the safety of these implants, as there have been concerns in the past these implants might cause complications in some patients. Thus, the FDA has ruled that only those women participating in approved clinical studies may receive silicone implants.

In addition, some women requiring replacement implants may be allowed to participate in these studies. The bottom line is that this decision should only be made by your doctor and you. We are eager to speak to you and set up your initial consultation so that you can decide which type
